“I want everything we do, that I do personally or that our office does to be beautiful. I don’t give a damn whether the client understands that that’s worth anything, […] or whether it is worth anything. It’s worth it to me.”
– Saul Bass
Saul Bass was an American graphic designer and filmmaker famous mostly for his incredible poster designs and title sequences for the films of many of the greatest filmmakers of all time including Alfred Hitchcock, Otto Preminger and Martin Scorsese.
This statement distills how I try to work whether I’m doing designs for websites or for control systems. That it was so succinctly put by one of my professional idols makes me feel like I’m on the right path. When others are trying to convince me otherwise, I will turn to these words for reassurance.
