We’re trying to plan a return to Nine Mile for Bob Marley’s birthday on February 6th to promote our goal of establishing a literacy and numeracy program in the region. Our goals for this trip are twofold: to spread the word about our vision for the program and the goals of the region, and to find a champion for our project on the Jamaican side. For that we’re looking for someone in the community to be our liaison, who will promote the benefits of the project and coordinate with our team in Toronto on future endeavours.
Clearly, heading to Jamaica in the middle of a Canadian winter is an appealing idea, but footing the bill for the trip is a bit more difficult. The idea of having a fundraiser for the journey is floating about, but at this point it will probably happen after the trip. It might come in the form of an exhibit or sale of the photos I made while I was there last May and June, as well as those made by Che during his visit, so I’ll keep you posted if that materializes.
